ROMORA BAY RESORT AND MARINA 

In the ever-expanding, increasingly demanding, seemingly never-ending search for the perfect island home, a just-introduced offering presents an almost irresistible combination. Romora Bay Club and Resort on Harbour Island in The Bahamas is about to be re-invented. Aging structures (of no historic value) are being replaced by eight, two-story, airy tropical colonial buildings in a low-density enclave. A total of forty residences over more than 4.5 acres, the one-, two- and three-bedroom homes with generous outdoor living balconies and patios will convert into a resort-managed condo hotel, earning revenue when owners are not occupying them – and each owner will be entitled to buy a slip in the most environmentally-friendly marina in the country, the first to qualify for both Blue and Green Flag certification.

To understand what sets Romora Bay apart from other offerings, you have to know a little bit about the setting. Nestled in a quiet corner on the protected sunny side of the harbour, entry from the road is almost invisible. Once inside, an old world charm emerges. Cottages are surrounded by rich foliage, brilliant bougainvillea and bright hibiscus, stone walls and long pathways. The gentle soft cape has made a perfect backdrop for many photo shoots – Elle, Ocean Drive, Cover Girl, LL Bean, Marie-Claire, J. Jill, Gillette have all filmed there. Spectacular sunsets and ferry crossings to the Eleuthera mainland from a dock beyond the pool add to the charm.

When new buildings are constructed, attention to detail will be evident throughout from fine cabinetry to eight-foot high window walls and top of the line appliances. Focus will be on generous outdoor living spaces and environmentally sound practices. One-bedroom residences with designer finishes on interior and flat screen TVs will run nearly 1,300 square feet villa with more than 350 sq ft devoted to patio. Two- and three-bedroom units will offer about 2,700 sq ft with a third or more of the space set aside for covered verandas with stunning views. Other amenities include wireless connectivity throughout the resort and a heated infinity edge pool.

Two of the principals in the Romora Bay Club are marine conservation activists and the residential-resort community will be built with the environment in mind, particularly in the forty-slip marina that is being constructed without dredging. Solar energy will assist in powering marina and dockmaster’s office. There will be a complete pumping out facility and boats that dock will be monitored through a special dye in to ensure compliance. Gray water will be treated and recycled for irrigation and the resort will make its own water through a reverse osmosis system with extensive filtration.

The first two buildings are expected to be completed in Summer 2009.
